I love sharing ‘before & after’ photos. It’s so much fun to see the transformation of a room. I love seeing the reaction of my clients when we complete a project, but seeing the actual ‘before & after’ photos sometimes even amazes me! You can see a slideshow of ‘before & afters’ on my website under Portfolio, but I’d like to showcase one here that demonstrates what a difference accessories can make.
In the ‘before’ photo to the left notice how impersonal the space looks without accessories. Although there are accessories on the mantel, they are too small, and therefore get lost. In the ‘after’ photo below, the mantel is now accessorized with artwork of the appropriate scale, a candleholder, and a small sculpture. The entertainment center now holds some of the beautiful glass and pottery that was once ‘lost’ on the mantel. Lamps, plants, additional artwork and other accessory pieces now give the room a warm, unified feel. Notice the use of three pieces on the coffee table. Always try to use odd numbers for a balanced look.
